Mr. X, fnWEB - Bangkok - July 19, 2002 - Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, who is to take over as the director-general of the World Trade Organisation(WTO) in September, would like to have more openness in WTO. In a recent Bangkok Post -Reed Tradex Economic Forum, Dr. Supachai was in favour of the process in Geneva to be open to more participation, which should include members of parliament, the private sector as well as non-governmental organisations(NGOs).

By the time Dr. Supachai officially takes over the WTO in September, he would become a central figure of the so-called Doha round of trade negotiations, whose main agenda was adopted at the …
