After hunting them down in the jungles of Western Mindanao and offering a 5m-dollar reward for their heads, the United States government on Tuesday [23 July] threw the book at five Abu Sayyaf leaders.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo welcomed the US indictment against the five notorious kidnappers in connection with the abduction of four Americans [Jeffrey Schilling, Guillermo Sobero, Martin and Gracia Burnham] that led to the deaths of two of them [Sobero and Martin Burnham]. They were also charged with the killing of a Filipino nurse [Edibora Yap].
