Day-After-Thanksgiving 'Holiday Blitz' Attracts Heavy In-Store Traffic; Home Electronics, Small Appliances, and Toys Are Hottest Sellers

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. reported record single-day sales for Friday, November 29, of more than $1.43 billion at the company's domestic Wal-Mart stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets. This compares to the $1.25 billion recorded for the similar post-Thanksgiving day in 2001.

The sales increase was driven by good improvements in both customer count and average ticket. Top-selling categories were home electronics, small appliances, and toys.
