THE JAPANESE embassy in Bratislava is currently holding the Japan Festival to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Slovakia. From September through November, a handful of Japanese cultural events will take place in Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, and PreSov. Bratislava will host a Shamisen Concert on September 16 at 18:00 at Moyzes Hall on Vajanske nabrezie 12. Michihiro and Michiyoshi Sato will play the traditional musical instrument, the shamisen, while Sachiko Kaiho will perform another traditional Japanese instrument, the koto, and Masaki Yoshimi will accompany them on percussion. The October 21 concert starting at 19:00, at the same Bratislava venue, will feature soprano Nao Higano accompanied by pianist Tomoko Asahina and Slovak violoncellist Jan Slavik.
