African gender activists are rising to the challenge of ensuring that the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) brings about real and positive change in the lives of women. Existing structures are being utilised to disseminate information regarding the NEPAD, to identify areas of concern and to plot the way forward. For instance, the Africa Women's Forum hosted a regional Conference on African Women and the. NEPAD in February 2002 and MATCH International Centre produced an initial gender review of the NEPAD in January 2002.
Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF) presented a panel discussion and strategy session during the 46th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women CCSW) United Nations in New York, March 2002 During the meeting FEMNET presented a paper titled African Women Gender and the NEPAD. In general, the meeting welcomed and applauded the NEPAD.
