Last summer, we bought a four-wheel-drive (4WD) Jeep Liberty for a road-test report that we published in May. Soon after we bought our vehicle, AutoWeek magazine reported that its test driver had experienced a rollover in a two-wheel-drive (2WD) Liberty in its slalom test. That raised concerns about the Liberty's stability during at-the-limit maneuvers.
In May, we reported that "we did not experience any unusual handling behavior in any of our tests" with our 4WD Liberty. We also said that the Liberty "proved predictable and secure in all of our emergency-handling tests."
