After reading Mothering for almost 30 years, I am more in love with it than ever. Peggy's piece "Having a Baby in America" (March-April 2002) shows that you have never lost your focus about the value of conscious birthing. It was this wise guidance over the years that led me to give birth to my two daughters at home at ages 35 and 39, experiences that I will always treasure.
One letter published in the March-April 2002 issue asked what is more important, how you give birth or the end result. To that I respond, "Why do women feel they must choose one over the other?" Although a healthy baby is the ultimate goal of pregnancy and birth, the process itself has intrinsic value and great importance in the life and psyche of each woman, her family, and community.
