(From Thai Press Reports)
Section: Government and Politics - Mahachon Party candidate Siriwat Kachornprasart tells Phochana Phichitsiri about the progress of his campaign ahead of the Phichit by-election on Sunday.
Who will win this by-election? I will definitely win. Since I started campaigning, I have been well received in every village I have visited and have received some very good responses from residents.
Why did you lose in the [February general] election? There was strong sentiment in favour of Thai Rak Thai then, and there was another factor that I'd rather not discuss. The Election Commission has already made a ruling [by refusing to endorse winner Navin Boonseat].
What makes you confident that you will win this time? I have strong ties with the people of Phichit. My family has been in politics for over 20 years and I joined my father's campaigns and visited constituents before I entered politics in 1999. I visit every village and the villagers know me. I help them when they need help.
Your rivals say you are not sufficiently well rounded to be an MP and you're not really interested in politics.
If I hadn't been interested in politics I wouldn't have been involved with it for so many years. People who are in politics know that they need to have perseverance, patience and a strong will. Whoever made that comment does not really know me and I don't care. My constituents understand me and that is enough.
