Section: General News - The 5,000-strong farmer demonstration will continue outside Government House until they get a meeting with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to demand debt relief, a representative said on Wednesday, The Nation reports.
The Council of Networks of People's Organisations spokesman Pichit Chaimongkol announced that the demonstration would continue as Thaksin had promised to solve their problems in 60 days but it had already been 83 days and nothing had materialised.
The group leaders spoke on Tuesday with the Farmers Restoration and Development Fund's (FRD) acting secretary-general Chularat Nirattisayakul, and FRD president Deputy Prime Minister Pinij Charusombat, but got no clear answer about whether or when the debt-scheme panel would be formed, said farmers' representative Kim-ung Phongnarai.
"They didn't say if the FRD board meeting on Wednesday would bring up key issues such as debt repayment," Kim-ung said, adding that FRD executives were just buying time and the PM was the only one to give them a clear answer.
