Mumbai, Oct 31 (PTI) The Democratic Front government in Maharashtra has taken stringent measures to put back the state's economy on tracks, which include bringing down administrative costs from 73 per cent to 48 per cent in the past one year, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said today.

The measures include putting brakes on fresh recruitment by curtailing powers conferred on the bureaucracy, and not granting bonus to employees, Deshmukh told PTI here on the eve of completion of one year in office.
Earlier, the bureaucracy went on recruiting staff using powers conferred on them, but the state withdrew their powers and the practice stopped, the Chief Minister said.
