A new RSPCA report published today reveals that a proposed EU Directive could condemn animals to a lifetime of suffering fear and distress on and around Bonfire Night.
RSPCA vets have examined footage and photographs of distressed pets sent to the Society by worried members of the public* and shocking new figures showing animals are still being caused suffering and distress by loud fireworks have also been released:
- Complaints received in November last year were at 245 the highest to date in the period measured by the Society (1999 to 2004).
- Vets reported that they dealt with 682 cases where animals were treated for distress and injuries due to fireworks during October and November last year.
- Between 1 October and 30 November last year, the RSPCA received 848 firework-related calls. Of these, 324 were complaints, and 76 were about lost, found and rescued animals.
The Society predicts pets and wildlife will suffer similar misery...
