Peter Georgiopoulos has refused to rule General Maritime out of the race to buy American Eagle Tankers, the aframax specialist that looks set to be sold by Neptune Orient Lines, despite the company's $525m purchase of Metrostar Management's 19-strong tanker fleet, writes Tony Gray.

The General Maritime chairman and chief executive described the acquisition of Metrostar's 14 suezmaxes and five aframaxes as a 'special' deal at a 'compelling price.' He commented: 'I've been in this business for 20 years and I've never seen a deal of this size and quality fleet. For us, it was almost a dream come true that something like this was available.' …
