A couple of weeks ago, I was getting up from a chair when I had the most awful back pain.

I couldn't remember doing anything to have caused it, but I was out of action for a few days, and it took me about 10 days to fully recover and feel better.

It seems that four out of five of us get back pain at some time in our lives. Most backs get better in a few weeks (as did mine), and painkillers are often all that is needed. (I also found that heat on my back - the good old hot water bottle - made a huge difference).

Back sprains are a part of everyday life, and your back is usually very good at taking these 'knocks'. …
