Oct. 30--Preliminary damage estimates in Coral Gables from the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Wilma total just under $2 million -- though city leaders expect that to grow.
Add that to the estimated $5.6 million that it could cost to clear debris, and Wilma may approach what the city spent on Hurricane Katrina.
Gables Finance Director Don Nelson said the final tally on Katrina is about $9.5 million -- the largest bulk of which went to debris removal.
