Listening Library is celebrating its fiftieth year of finding, recording, and promoting important children's and young-adult literature. Publisher Tim Ditlow, whose parents Anthony and Helen Ditlow founded the company in 1955, talked with Booklist recently about audiobook trends and the future of the industry.
BKL: What are the most significant changes you have seen since your parents started the company?
DITLOW: Oh so many changes! The biggest is the huge growth of audiobooks in the retail and library marketplace. Also, the availability of our audiobooks on download seems like something out of a science fiction novel, compared to the early days when we pressed vinyl records and mailed them out library rate.
BKL: You're part of a bigger organization now. What qualities do you think continue to make Listening Library unique?
