TV for cell phones is a new and highly hyped service. Most of these video clips aren't live; still, the service is aimed at news nuts.
We tested video services in New York and New Orleans from two major cell-phone providers, Sprint PCS and Verizon. Sprint was the easier to use, though we can't recommend either service. Navigation is clumsy Touch the wrong phone button while downloading a video and it's lost; you have to start all over again. You also can't see a lot on the tiny phone screens.
Only a few pricey phones can accommodate video service; two models are in Quick Picks at right. Here are the details on the two services, Sprint TV and Verizon VCast:
SPRINT TV
Availability: Nationwide.
Cost: Basic, $10 a month (Fox News live, updated video clips from Fox Sports, Discovery Channel, the Weather Channel, other networks, and a preview of premium offerings). Premium, $4 to $6 each for a full, live feed from above networks. Prices don't include a required $15-permonth Web access fee.
Pros: Service is available anywhere within the Sprint network. Video clips are easy to access.
