I read your latest issue that had an article on arthritis. The author, Christy DeSmith, and her physician did not have any information in the article describing their experiences or competencies. As an arthritic for over 40 years I found the article to be: a) grossly misleading--there are not just two forms of arthritis but at least 100; b) a crude use of product placement for glucosamine-chondrotin (just check the magazine Arthritis Today for the number of ads for GC); c) overlooking the dangers of Vioxx; d) avoiding DMARDs like methotrexate, Enbrel; e) avoiding NSAIDs like Indocin (but then that drug is off patent by now); f) did not mention antacid meds like Carafate/Sucralfate; g) did not mention that the Cox-2 inhibitors raise blood pressure and have no tests showing them to perform better than older NSAIDs like Indocin (indomethacin).
