Oct. 28--MIAMI -- President Bush visited hurricane-stricken South Florida on Thursday, promising frustrated citizens that help is on the way even as thousands affected by Hurricane Wilma spent hours in agonizingly long lines for gas, food and ice.
Accompanied by his brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the president visited a food center at a church north of Fort Lauderdale, then met with emergency officials at the National Hurricane Center west of Miami. It was his first visit since Wilma struck Florida on Monday, leaving millions without electricity and disrupting water and phone service for tens of thousands.
