Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is teaming up with pop star Fatboy Slim to write a "disco" musical about the life of former Philippines first lady Imelda Marcos.

"Here Lies Love" will premiere at next year's Adelaide Festival, taking place in venues transformed into giant dance clubs.

The music will be continuous and spectators will be expected to dance along and drink from the bar just as they would in a nightclub, a spokeswoman said.
