MICHELLE CARUSO-CABRERA, CNBC ANCHOR: Our top story this morning, Ben Bernanke the nominee. After months of speculation, President Bush announcing that the head of the White House Economic Council and former Federal Reserve Governor Ben Bernanke is his pick to succeed Alan Greenspan. Greenspan will step down on January 31st after leading the central bank for 18 years. The 51-year-old Bernanke arrived at the White House back in June after serving on the Fed`s Board of Governors from 2002 to 2005, he also chaired the Princeton Economics Department before joining the Fed. The nominee says he will stay true to the work done by his predecessor.
