There are two approaches here: literary and cheeky chappie. The former is represented by Hugh Johnson's Wine: A Life Uncorked (GBP20, Weidenfeld & Nicolson), the latter by Matt Skinner's Thirsty Work (GBP17.99, Mitchell Beazley). Both books contain a lot of author photographs Matt typically in shades and t-shirt, Hugh invariably in jacket and tie but that's where the similarities end. The books are as different as an Aussie Chardonnay and an Amontillado sherry.
