After several particularly buoyant years, Champagne sales in the off-trade have stabilised and the most significant development is probably the return of greater activity in the high street thanks to Thresher's promotions.
The chain's three-for-two offer has enticed some consumers away from the supermarket aisles in favour of almost GBP10 off a bottle of fizz. Such attractive offers are giving Champagne and sparkling wines the 'greater uplift in the entire promotion, according to buyer James Griswood.
