Oct. 24--Beset by soaring energy prices, slow-growing wages and high debt levels, Americans' personal finances have rarely been under more stress.

Still, callers to Sunday's free financial planning hotline focused on the nuts and bolts of money management and problem-solving, with topics such as investing and elder care.

Financial planners from the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Financial Planning Association answered a range of personal finance questions from readers Sunday as part of the hotline co-sponsored by The Dallas Morning News.
