As the Dallas Zoological Society celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, Jenny has seen it all.
In May 1955, a collection of area business leaders created the society to help the city-owned Dallas Zoo. The aim was to provide a setting of maximum interest and maximum accessibility for the Dallas citizenry.
The founders wasted no time, leaping into a three-year campaign that resulted in the purchase of two hippos, two rhinos, one elephant and two gorillas, Jimmy and the aforementioned Jenny.
