SIU assistant men's basketball coach Shane Hawkins has taken a paid administrative leave of absence from the University after being indicted and charged with lying to a federal grant jury.
Hawkins, a former assistant coach at Barton County Community College (Kan.), was charged with making a false statement before a federal grand jury about his knowledge of athletic improprieties at that school. Hawkins worked at Barton County from 1999-2001.
