Section: Regional News - The newly-appointed Japanese goodwill ambassador to Vietnam is in the country on a four-day visit to promote cultural exchange between the two nations.

Sugi Ryotaro, 61, is a well-known singer and painter who has been in the public eye for more than 46 years. During this time, he has won a number of medals and prizes for his contributions to Japanese society.

Ryotaro is also a foster parent to 12 Vietnamese boys and girls growing up in Hanoi's Birla Orphan Village.
