RENO -- Earlene Forsythe used an energetic speech and dozens of volunteers to help win the chair of the Nevada Republican Party as the state's GOP gathered Thursday for its convention.
Forsythe, 55, the former vice-chair of the state party and former chair of the Washoe County party, won a majority of the vote at the central committee meeting late Thursday afternoon.
She defeated Heidi Smith, the former president of the National Federation of Republican Women, to replace Lia Roberts, the former chairwoman who resigned to run for the presidency in her native Romania.
