FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ The Astros are in Chicago on Sunday to play the second game of the World Series. The 0-5 Texans, the shame of the NFL, are at home against the Colts.

Fortunately for the growing number of masochists in Houston, these games are not on television at the same time, though my guess is that whatever viewership the Texans can muster for this pre-Halloween horror show will be mowing the lawn by the second quarter.

How did this happen? How did a team with a brilliantly grounded owner, Bob McNair, and an apparently rock-solid front office and coaching staff get to this point?

This is a team with five touchdowns in five games, a team with an average 27:05 possession time, a team with a quarterback, David Carr, who has been sacked...
