Oct. 21--TEXAS FARMERS, TRADE GIANTS HAVE STAKE IN COTTON BATTLE: Sy Cook of the Texas Farm Bureau paints a grim picture of West Texas cotton growers trying to find a way to overcome bills, loans and a cotton trade case that wipes out federal price supports.
"They just can't put pencil to paper and make it work," he said.
In Geneva, meanwhile, the world's trade heavyweights are drafting a document to cut government payments to farmers and open markets everywhere to food, entertainment, finance and many other goods and services. That same cotton case might scupper the deal.
