Every law firm spends time and a lot of money developing young talent. For most firms, the break-even point doesn't even arrive until two or three years after a new or novice associate begins a career with that firm. Most firms have committees that worry about hiring, mentoring, and assigning useful (and hopefully billable) work to young associates.
