CMS has recently reorganized--and flattened out--to facilitate accomplishment of its many MMA-related tasks, said Patricia Smith, head of the agency's Medicare Advantage group. With fewer layers of hierarchy, stakeholders seeking assistance may get help more immediately from a staffer who specializes in a single issue, she indicated. On the downside, with less funneling of information up through CMS channels, "there may no longer be any one person" who "can answer all questions."
