FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Jean Robertson's hurricane kit is a roll-aboard monogrammed suitcase that she stashes in the bathroom five months out of the year. She packs it each year at the beginning of the storm season, "so I'm all set to go," says Robertson, 85, who lives in a Delray Beach, Fla., retirement community on the Intracoastal Waterway.
She may be on the road again Thursday.
Operators of nursing homes and assisted living centers began nervously eyeing Hurricane Wilma Wednesday, trying to decide if they should stay or go. The tragic deaths of at least 57 elderly nursing home residents during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita still are fresh in their minds.
