Murder defendant Craig Bingaman expressed fear for his life Wednesday when prosecutors asked a police detective to explain how he knew Bingaman.

Detective Robert Whiteley of the police Firearms Detail testified during the preliminary hearing of Bingaman, 26, who is charged with murder in the April 6 death of his wife, Tiffany.

Whitely said Bingaman called his department-issued cell phone on the day of the slaying and said he choked his wife after she attacked him with speaker wires.

"They were in a fight, and ... finally, he became so upset, he took the speaker wires and choked her," Whiteley said the defendant told him.
