When it comes to their families, mothers influence spending decisions on everything from what sports teams their children follow to where they will spend their next vacation.
No kidding.
Yet, many businesses ignore or sorely underestimate mothers' buying power, said Nora Lee, author of "The Mom Factor: What Really Drives Where We Shop, Eat and Play" (Urban Land Institute; $19.95).
According to Lee, women influence 80 percent of all consumer spending in the United States, and about three-fourths of those women are mothers.
