Oct. 9--Yesterday's grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park was billed as a rematch between Henny Hughes and First Samurai, but it turned into a no-contest when First Samurai clearly proved he's the top 2-year-old in the nation, posting a sharp 23/4-length victory over his rival.

The victory clearly makes the undefeated First Samurai the favorite for the Oct. 29 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, also at Belmont....
