1 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, completed a dual-directional, extended-reach wildcat on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula to open the Tyonek 1 and Tyonek 2 gas pools in Kasilof Field. Completion details weren't disclosed. The company drilled the #1 Kasilof South directionally from a surface location in Section 28-3n-12w, Seward Meridian, west-northwest more than 2.5 miles to a bottomhole location in Section 25-3n-12w. The hole was drilled to 17,545 ft. measured depth and 9,642 ft. true vertical depth.
After pulling out of that well-bore, the company re-entered the well and drilled the #1 L1 Kasilof South to a separate structure at a bottomhole location in Section 19 of the same township and range. That well went to 17,665 ft. measured depth with a 9,999 ft. vertical depth.
2 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, also completed a Tyonek gas discovery on the Kenai Peninsula that produced 154.4 million cu. ft. of gas in its first four months online. It produced 59.13 million cu. ft. of gas with 137 bbl. of water in April. Marathon's #1 Paxton was drilled from a surface location in Section 13-1s-14w, Seward Meridian, northwest into Section 12 to a measured depth of 10,115 ft. Vertical depth was 8,320 ft. The discovery opened the Pax pool in the Ninilchik Unit, about seven miles southwest of the discovery well for the unit.
