For the second time in three years, the Ashtabula leg of the FMF Extreme Dirt Track ATVA Nationals was scored on heat results because the main events were cancelled due to rain Sunday. Keith Little was awarded the victory in the Pro class, after posting the fastest qualifying time in Heat 1.

"Talking to everyone and watching the weather, we knew there was a real good chance for rain," Little said. "Lining up for the heat race, it was on everyone's minds that you needed to win your heat race and you needed to be the fastest heat race [of the two].

"It's probably not the best thing, but that's how it goes. A win's a win," he added. "I would have rather beat them out here in the main event, but racing is racing and it's the same for everybody, so I'll take [the win] this way."

Dusty Practice

Oddly enough, practice Friday night was the exact opposite as huge dust clouds engulfed the entire course and made the straightaway disappear at times. Riders had to resort to riding at 3/4-throttle until they cleared the gigantic roost storm. The track crew worked feverishly to water the course and repair the choppy sections. In fact, the straightaway was so dry, dirt marbles had to be swept off the top surface so tires could find the best traction and bluegroove the track.

"Friday when I went out, the track was really rough and dusty, so I knew I wasn't going to get much feedback for setup, so Friday all I focused on was gearing," Little said.
