There may be a lot of little tricks that can help you optimize your ATV for sand riding, but nothing will make as much difference as your tire selection. Unless you are lucky enough to have years of dune riding experience, sand tire selection can be difficult. There are many different designs, sizes and manufacturers.

The question is, how can a rider be sure they are getting the tire that will make their time in the sand the most enjoyable? Where does one even begin?

We recently had the pleasure of testing six new sand tire designs by AMS Tires in the Southern California sand-riding mecca of Glamis. AMS Tires offers all six sand tire designs in a variety of sizes to fit most ATVs, and each design has its own unique characteristics.

All sand tires are created equal, right? This is not true. But, how one rides will determine what tire style should be mounted on the ATV's wheels. AMS seemingly has a different tire for just about every rider, so read on.
