Oct. 7--If you think the city's sidewalks are crowded with folks yakking on cell phones, look at the streets around the NYU campus near Washington Square. It's the rare student who doesn't have an ear glued to a cell phone.
Not surprisingly, once students enter the "real world," the reliance on cell phones remains, and experts are finding more and more 20-somethings are foregoing in-home land lines for the convenience of all-mobile, all the time.
"I already pay for a cell phone so it's ridiculous to pay Verizon on top of Cingular," said a female NYU undergrad, who'd rather her parents didn't know she "may not pick up the phone if I don't want them knowing where I am."
