Sep. 29--WASHINGTON -- One of the most powerful men in Washington, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, was indicted yesterday on charges of conspiracy to illegally funnel corporate cash to GOP congressional candidates.
DeLay, a Texan nicknamed the Hammer for his bareknuckle tactics, furiously denied the charge and called Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle a "partisan fanatic." Earle is a Democrat.
