VIENNA -- Cyclosporine and ascomycin decreased DNA repair and reduced apoptosis in human keratinocyte cultures exposed to ultraviolet B light, Daniel B. Yarosh, Ph.D., reported at the 10th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin.
Dr. Yarosh called this finding "hypothesis generating" and said the observation may explain in part why skin cancers occur within 10 years in about 35% of patients who undergo renal transplant.
