FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Four years after gunmen brazenly executed casino magnate Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis on the streets of Fort Lauderdale, police have arrested three men with mob ties, reviving a case that riveted South Florida.
Detectives made coordinated strikes across the country over two days, corralling the men they say were involved in the February 2001 ambush and shooting of Boulis. The owner of the lucrative SunCruz Casino operation was shot to death as he left his Fort Lauderdale office.
"Gus was a rough and tumble guy, but he was a good guy and I'm glad they were finally able to get the guys they believe did this," said Marty Steinberg, a Miami lawyer and longtime friend who dined with Boulis the night of his death. "He didn't deserve to be gunned down on the street like this."
