Companies already have faced lots of challenges in the last decade: the Y2K computer glitch, a rise in computer viruses and spam, and growing medical costs.
Now they have another challenge: coping with aging workers.
Over the next 10 years, the baby boom generation -- those born in the 20 years after World War II -- will begin to retire.
Skills and knowledge will be lost as those workers leave. And it may not be easy to transfer their expertise to younger employees. Older workers also must find ways to cope with such issues as failing eyesight and loss of dexterity.
