Whenever I see a book title containing the word "handbook," I expect the author to lay out the subject matter in an orderly progression so that even non-initiated readers will be able to find answers to their questions. Hirschhorn does just that. In a detailed table of contents, he gives readers a broad overview of the topic. Although Hirschhorn presupposes that readers have a general knowledge of export control and embargo, novices will gain a good foundation in the subject matter. It just takes a little more work. To readers like me who have problems remembering acronyms, it proved to be very helpful to have a copy of the glossary pages while reading the book.
