Babies and water can mix.(LETTERS)(Letter to the Editor)
Thanks for the article on toddler swimming (June 2005). We own a swim school and have had many victims of near drowning save themselves after falling into a body of water due to our program. We also promote layers of protection and educate our parents so they understand that it is more than swimming lessons.
I believe that the Academy of Pediatrics is giving out a bad message on a topic they are not educated on. They have no statistics and do not understand the water and how these kids are like 30-year-old midgets who absorb everything you tell them.
They definitely need to stop giving out this controversial information to parents. The leading cause of death in children under the age of 5 in Florida is drowning. How can they make such an irresponsible statement?
