MARIA BARTIROMO, CNBC ANCHOR: Thousands of people in Texas and Louisiana loading up their cars, going inland as they prepare for the hurricane. KB Home has closed its Houston offices, the 40 subdivisions in the Houston metro area, two of which are about 40 miles west of Galveston, Texas. In a first on CNBC interview, Bruce Karatz, chairman and CEO of KB Home is with us in New York.
Bruce, nice to have you with us, welcome.
BRUCE KARATZ, CHAIRMAN & CEO, KB HOME: Nice to be with you, Maria.
BARTIROMO: First, give me the impact that you are seeing or expecting as Hurricane Rita is expected to hit ground this weekend.
KARATZ: Well, yesterday we put in place our emergency response plan in Houston. About 70 people were in the mandatory evacuation area. As you said, we closed our offices. We then -- after we took care of the people, went and secured sites, took down scaffolding, put up plywood where necessary and we feel good about our preparation.
