That's all it took for the first chip to appear in what Josh Beckett spent seven innings building Friday night. Beckett's effort and the Marlins' season both were in ruins by the end of the eighth.
After blanking the Braves through seven, Beckett watched them score the first of four eighth-inning runs on seven Antonio Alfonseca pitches. They totaled as many hits that inning (five) as they did off Beckett all night in orchestrating the 4-3 win.
