WEEK 3 NFL CAPSULES

ATLANTA (1-1) AT BUFFALO (1-1)

Where/when: Ralph Wilson Stadium, 1 p.m., Sunday.

Falcons: QB Mike Vick is trying to recover from a hamstring injury that limited his running on Sunday. Once again, despite emphasis, he has not been an effective thrower. Not much help from 2004 rookie bust WR Michael Jenkins, who has only four catches.

Bills: J.P. Losman starts at quarterback, but he was yanked in the second half of the Tampa Bay loss. They're home and facing a less difficult defensive opponent. RB Willis McGahee has a chance to get rolling. Good new on Losman: He hasn't thrown an interception.

Streak: Falcons and Buffalo 1.

Sizing it up: WR Lee Evans of the Bills had a rough week vs. Tampa and now runs into CB DeAngelo Hall, who has had mixed games. Great start vs. Randy Moss, but burned twice last Sunday. The Falcons miss injured KR Allen Rossum. Why aren't the Bills going deep to Evans?

Winner: Falcons.

CAROLINA (1-1) AT DOLPHINS (1-1)

Where/when: Dolphins Stadium, 1 p.m., Sunday.

Panthers: The win over New England catapulted them, at least for now, to elite status in the NFC with the Eagles. For the most part, they did it with defense, though they made two horrible mistakes, which led to both Patriots touchdowns. WR Steve Smith, back from injury, and CB Ken Lucas (UFA) have starred.

Dolphins: The Dolphins offense went moribund, just like last year, but the defense was strong until early in the fourth quarter. One big play might have made the difference. QB Gus Frerotte is trying to go downfield, but he's not getting the time. DE Jason Taylor continues to line in multiple positions.

Streak: Panthers +1, Dolphins 1.

Sizing it up: The Panthers have enough defense to shut off the passing game without blitzing and key Dolfs target TE Randy McMichael is going to have to deal with a couple of swift linebackers in the medium zones. They're still waiting on rookie first-rounder Ronnie Brown?

Winner: Panthers.

CINCINNATI (2-0) AT CHICAGO (1-1)

Where/when: Soldier Field, 1 p.m., Sunday.

Bengals: Big plays and big numbers in the first two weeks as QB Carson Palmer keeps growing into the job. He's threw for 337 yards in Week 2 with three TDs...
