Nowadays there are so many product recalls we may not be able to print all of them in CHOICE. For comprehensive recall information go to the Federal Treasury website: www.recalls.gov.au. If you don't have web access, call the Consumer Safety Unit on (02) 6263 2747.
Companies often rent 1800 numbers for a couple of months after a recall is announced. If the number given is no longer operating, phone the manufacturer or retailer direct.
ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER: Merisant Australia has recalled Equal Spoonful, 40 g and 80 g glass jars, with best-before dates of Feb 2006 and Mar 2006. No other Equal products are affected.
The problem: Glass fragments have been found in some of the above batches.
What to do: Return the product to the place of purchase for a refund, or call 1300 306 120 for further information.
NUTCRACKER: Woolworths has recalled Santa's Helper, 30 cm nutcracker, four assorted.
The problem: The product contains a species of borer that's not known to occur in Australia.
What to do: While there's no known threat to consumer health or safety, wrap the product in plastic and return it to your nearest Woolworths or Safeway store for a refund, or call 1800 638 434 for...
