EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. _ An hour before the start of the Saints-Giants game Monday night, everything looked more or less normal down on the field.

Quarterback Aaron Brooks of New Orleans was tossing warm-up passes to a succession of receivers. The usual array of NFL TV personalities were hobnobbing with coaches. And the stands were slowly filling with bloated tailgaters.

Up in the media facility, however, there was a lot that wasn't normal.

Nick Karl, one of the Saints' public relations assistants, was not dressed in a suit, as he normally is. He lost his wardrobe in Hurricane Katrina. He also had to repeatedly explain to reporters that there weren't any Saints media guides, those handy little booklets full of information about the players and team. The supply had been washed away a few weeks ago.
